Course Memo

Prerequisite: Member of Academic Honors Program. An introduction to Eureka College and the liberal arts, this course is designed to assist students in making a successful transition to the College, lay the foundation for liberal arts study, and develop skills to ensure academic success. The course includes a group service learning project which students complete during the semester. Should be taken during the first semester of enrollment. Justice and Civic Responsibility Capability course.

Course Section Description

Class and the Canon: This course will explore how social class affects both the production and consumption of art. We will also explore how social class has affected the form art has taken throughout history but especially art made in the “Western Canon.” We will also explore the correlation between race and social class, and how these factors play into to contemporary art production and consumption. As part of this course students will participate in a service learning project bringing art to a local homeless shelter.
