Course Memo

Prerequisite: At least a C- in SPA300W or by placement. (Offered once every four years during spring on a rotating basis with other 300-level Spanish electives). A survey of Iberian and pre-Colombian cultures from the pre-modern through the early modern period. This course covers major historical developments that led to the emergence of modern Hispanophone countries, emphasizing the enduring influence of diverse cultural heritages on both sides of the Atlantic. In particular, students will develop their skills of textual analysis as we examine cultural artifacts from—or about—this era. Class discussion, assignments, and course readings in Spanish.
