Course Memo

Prerequisite: None. This course builds students’ skills in using musical terminology such as melody, harmony, rhythm, timbre, and texture to discuss musical works. With a deep look at historical Western works from each time period, as well as select examples from folk and popular music, students will develop skills in active listening and understand how historical and cultural context affects style.
